The wearables hardware company Misfit already has a waterproof fitness tracker on the market, the Misfit Shine, which could be used during swimming. Since the Misfit Shine can already be submerged at depths over 160 feet, consumers don't need to worry about taking it off when getting in their dose of aquatic exercise. But tracking laps in the pool is very different from tracking steps taken.

So the company has now teamed up with swimwear brand Speedo to create a brand new activity tracker that is designed specifically with swimmers in mind.

Misfit announced on Tuesday the launch of the Speedo Shine, the waterproof wearable that is made to track underwater activity.

The world's first activity, swim, and sleep tracker is made out of aircraft-grade aluminum, and like the Misfit Shine, is also waterproof up to 160 feet. But what sets this wearable apart is that it has uses motion-sensing algorithms, which were tested in Speedo's Aqualab research facility, to track both the lap count and distance of the swimmer—no matter the type of stoke. The swimming tracker also keeps track of calories burned and the amount of fitness points gained for the workout.

Not only does the Speedo Shine accurately track water activities, but it also can be worn outside of the pool, tracking walking, running, cycling, as well as sleep quality and duration, just like its previous models.

The Misfit Speedo Shine is a circular device with LED lights on top that can be worn on the band or as a clip, and is featured in the new silver color called "Pure" that is paired with either a black or white band.

The wearable syncs via Bluetooth 4.1 to the Misfit app that is available for both iOS and Android, and can be used with Speedo's fitness tracking app, Speedo Fit, when it launches.

The swimming tracker has a coin cell battery that doesn't require charging, with the battery life lasting up until six months.

The Misfit Speedo Shine will be available Sept. 1 online at Misfit.com, SpeedoUSA.com, and all Apple Stores, with a retail price of $79.99.
