Amazon announced on Tuesday that its Prime members can now watch movies and TV episodes on their iOSÂ and Android devices while offline for no addition charge.
Amazon Prime Instant Video is the first platform to expand its service to include offline viewing, so that members can watch offered titles whenever and where ever they wishâeven without Internet connection.
While members were previously able to download the titles purchased or rented, Amazon Instant Video is also the first to allow users to download movies and TV episodes that are offered as part of its yearly subscription via its iOS and Android app, a feature its competitors like Netflix and Hulu doesn't offer. That means members will be able to watch Amazon original series like Transparent or big blockbuster movies like Star Trek Into Darkness while on-the-go from their soon-to-be announced iPhone 6s or Samsung Note 5.
The Seattle-based e-commerce company also allowed members to download content onto Amazon devices like the Fire TV and Kindle Fire, but now this feature has expanded to Apple users to make watching movies and TV series that much easier for its 65 million subscribers globally.
"There's no doubt that the way people watch entertainment is changing â anytime, anywhere viewing is important and we are excited to provide our Prime members with offline viewing capabilities on iOS and Android platforms starting today," Michael Paull, VP of digital video at Amazon said in a press release. "We are proud to be the first and only online subscription-streaming service that enables offline viewing â on vacation, in a car, at the beach, on a plane, wherever our Prime members want to watch they can, regardless of Internet connection."

Movies that can be downloaded using the iOS and Android app include The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Wolf of Wall Street, Star Trek Into Darkness, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, as well as exclusive like Life After Beth, Palo Alto, Starred Up, The Bling Ring, If I Stay and The Spectacular Now.
The video download expansion to iOS and Android platforms are now available to Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Austria. Amazon has also redesigned the Amazon Video app for Android that enhance the in-app entertainment experience for users.
An annual Amazon Prime subscription is $99, which includes access to Amazon Instant Video, its music-streaming service, and fast delivery of goods purchased.
